About

Learn more about Homeandstudents and the story behind our education and student success content.

I started Home and Students back in 2019 after spending way too many evenings helping my younger sister navigate college applications while simultaneously watching my own kids struggle with remote learning. It hit me that so many families were dealing with the same challenges, but everyone seemed to be figuring things out alone.

My background is in education—I taught high school English for seven years before transitioning to academic counseling. During those years, I saw countless bright students who just needed someone to break things down in plain language. Not everyone has a parent who understands financial aid forms or knows the difference between AP and dual enrollment. That always bothered me.

This blog is my attempt to fill that gap. I write about everything from study techniques that actually work (not just the ones textbooks recommend) to managing student stress, choosing the right college path, and helping parents support their kids without losing their minds in the process. I've been there—both as an educator and as someone who's helped family members through the system.

What gets me excited about student success isn't just the grades or the acceptance letters. It's watching someone finally understand a concept they've been struggling with, or seeing a student realize they're capable of more than they thought. Education can be a game-changer, but only if students and families have the right information and support.

I'm not here to sell you expensive courses or pretend I have all the answers. I'm just sharing what I've learned from years in classrooms, countless conversations with students and parents, and plenty of trial and error with my own kids. Sometimes I get it wrong, and I'll tell you about those moments too.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find something here that makes your education journey a little bit easier.
